TCM Perspective On High Cholesterol

High Cholesterol in TCM

With the type of Chinese medicine, it is more focused on trying to do a tailored-made diagnosis. In traditional Chinese medicine, the doctors do not just categorize it as a kind of disease; we try to figure out exactly what type of syndrome (cause of disease) it is. Therefore, syndrome differentiation is a MUST in TCM diagnosis. With the right diagnosis, TCM doctor can be able to suit the remedy to the case. This is one of the characteristic of TCM treatment.

Acupuncture & Herbs the natural ways to lower Cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack or a stroke....

High cholesterol is a medical condition in which the amount of cholesterol in one’s bloodstream exceeds a normal or recommended level. Cholesterol is a complex organic compound that occurs naturally in the body and is used to produce bile acids, vitamin D, and a number of hormones needed by the body to function normally. When excessive amounts of cholesterol are present in the body, they may deposit on the inside lining of arteries, leading to a number of coronary heart disorders. While high cholesterol can be treated by a variety of western medical approaches, such as statin drugs, there are often unwanted side effects and unclear benefits. Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a safe, natural alternative form of care than can be used in conjunction with regular checkups to manage your cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol is a type of fat (lipid) made by your body and found in some foods. It's essential for good health and is found in every cell in your body. But having a high level of a certain type of cholesterol in your blood can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease and stroke.

You probably won’t notice if you have high cholesterol, as it doesn’t usually cause any symptoms. But having a high level of cholesterol in your blood can cause fatty deposits (known as plaques) to build up inside your arteries. Over time, this can make your arteries narrower and narrower, restricting the flow of blood to important organs such as your heart. This can cause symptoms like chest pain (angina).

More importantly though, if one of the plaques in your arteries bursts, it can cause a blood clot. This can completely block the blood supply to your heart, causing a heart attack. Or it might block the blood supply to your brain, which would cause a stroke.

Duchess of sussex Meghan get Migraine-free by acupuncture

Meghan is a fan of alternative medicine, and revealed that she also has acupuncture in a bid to ease the debilitating migraines she used to suffer with. "I have been a longtime believer in acupuncture and cupping," she told The Chalkboard. "I used to have debilitating migraines (hospitalised for them), and acupuncture and Eastern medicine absolute changed my life. Migraine-free living is a game changer."  Read more in Meghan's blog.

As reported on The Sunday Times, Harry and Meghan went for acupuncture regularly in order to look more radiant on the wedding day.

"For me, boosting the internal organs with acupuncture is more important than treating crows feet. You can do anything you want to the skin but the effects will always be short-lived if the underlying issues are not addressed. In the long-run, better health will always show on the face."

Acupuncture Natural cures & remedies for sexual disorder

As the name suggests, Sexual Disorders are those disorders that cause problems or difficulties in any of the phase of sexual activity. Hence, these disorders can be classified as Sexual Desire Disorders, Sexual Arousal Disorders, Orgasm Disorders and Sexual Pain Disorders, depending on the phases they affect.
Sexual Desire Disorder or decreased libido is usually caused by hormonal or psychological problems. Sexual Arousal Disorders include problems like impotence, frigidity and other such problems that cause avoidance of sexual activity.
Sexual Pain Disorders include conditions like Vaginismus and Dyspareunia and are mostly caused in females. Orgasm Disorders, on the other hand, can take place in males as well as females. Other Sexual Dysfunctions and Disorders include Gender Identity Disorders, Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, Paraphilias like, Gerontophiliac, Somnophilia, Urophilia and a host of other disorders.

Natural Home Remedies for Sexual Disorders
1) Soak ten almonds in water overnight. In the morning, remove the skin of the almonds and add a pinch of saffron, ginger, cardamom and a cup of warm milk (cow’s milk). Blend this mixture nicely and drink this homemade medicine regularly in the morning. This is one of the most effective natural home remedies for Sexual Disorders related to decreased libido.

2) Boil some with some raisins mixed in it. Eat the raisins and drink the milk afterwards to reduce and cure Sexual Disorders.
3) Consuming a mixture of milk and drumstick flowers is one of the most successful natural home remedies for Sexual Disorders. To prepare this home remedy, boil 250 ml milk mixed with 10 to 15 grams of drumstick flowers and drink the resultant mixture.

The drumstick plant is extremely healthy and has a number of health benefits. But it is not only its leaves that are useful. The plant’s flowers serve as a perfect tonic for the reproductive system and helps beat a number of related ailments like oligospermia (less sperms), infertility, and erectile dysfunction.
How does drumstick help?
This property of drumstick is mainly due to a compound called terigospermin that helps strengthen and increase the number (sperm count) and motility of sperm. Also, a study published in the American Journal Of Neuroscience [1] found the the plant worked by inhibiting the production of a particular compound and helped improve libido and performance. Also known as ‘Natural Viagra’, drumstick flowers are extremely effective when it comes to resolving common problems like erectile dysfunction and infertility.
4) Taking a combination of dried dates, almonds, quince seeds and pistachios grinded together serves as a therapeutic natural remedy for male sexual problems by improving libido. Simply eating 100 grams of dry dates on a regular basis is also beneficial in the healing sexual problems.
5) Grind equal amounts of black gram, wheat, rice and long pepper. Fry the powdered mixture in clarified butter and boil it in boil. Have this mixture on a regular basis to get rid of Sexual Disorders related to decreased libido.
6) Herbs like Lepidium Meyenii, Ginko Biloba, Arginine, Kava Kava, Chives, Turnera Diffusa, Damiana and Indian Ginseng are highly beneficial in the treatment of Sexual Disorders. The last two remdies are particularly helpful in reducing female sexual problems.

Traditional Chinese medical treatments can be very effective if treatment is pursued early. Both acupuncture and herbal therapy take a holistic approach accounting for mental, physical and environmental aspects. Acupuncture is based on the theory that there are 14 main energy pathways that run from head to toe along the body. A symptom or a disorder occurs when there is an imbalance in flow in these pathways. The insertion of hair fine needles regulates the flow, eliminating the symptom.

The inability to perform sexually can be frustrating for both the individual and his partner. Stop the silence and seek the solutions you need to lead a healthy mental, physical and sexual life.

Nourish the Liver in Spring and Prevent Allergies

Spring is the season when all things grow. Health regimen is very important in spring(the first season of the year). Find out why here.

Although Spring is full of vitality,  it could be a miserable season for people who have allergies. As all plants grow, their pollens fly with the wind. Families often with children who suffer from allergies which is more painful in Spring season.
In traditional Chinese Medicine,  we often use Ganaderma, Yam, Astragalus and other herbal medicines that can enhance the immune system to make herbal soup to help the changes in our body consititution except acupuncture, cupping massage treatments.
Spring is liver's season, in TCM the Liver is the organ responsible for the smooth flow of emotions as well as Qi and blood. It is the organ that is most affected by excess stress or emotions. The Liver’s partner organ is the Gallbladder.

  • The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi and blood in your body. It controls the volume and smooth flow of blood in your vessels and also stores the blood.
  • The eyes are the sensory organ related to the Liver. If you have any eye issues, including blurry vision, red or dry eyes, itchy eyes, it may be a sign deep down that your Liver is not functioning smoothly.
  • The tendons are the tissue associated with the Liver. TCM says that strength comes from the tendons, not muscles. Be like the cat that is strong, agile, and flexible, not the cow, which has huge muscles but little real strength.
  • The taste that corresponds to and supports the Liver is sour. If you crave sour foods, that may be your Liver communicating that it needs an extra boost, so be sure to include high-quality vinegar and sweet and sour recipes in your diet.
  • Anger is the emotion associated with the Liver. If you are often irritable, get angry easily, have trouble unwinding from the day’s activities, have trouble reasoning or going with the flow and letting things go, you are experiencing a Liver function problem. Experiencing these emotions chronically or excessively can seriously unbalance the function of your Liver..

When Liver Qi is imbalanced, hot and spicy foods may cause too much heat. Sour and bitter flavors are said to benefit the Liver meridian.  Excessive frustration and irritation can be especially difficult when the Liver meridian is out of balance. Physical exercise and reading can help restore balance. The fall is a vulnerable time, as well as the winds of March, and extremely hot weather.
Common signs of Liver meridian stress include dry, brittle, thickened nails and pain just below the ribs. Common illnesses include migraines, eye problems, and sinus problems. The Liver meridian circles the genitals, and rashes and discharges are associated with its imbalance, as well as hernias. For women, menstrual problems are common including PMS, painful periods, and heavy bleeding. Uterine fibroids may be related to imbalance of the Liver meridian as well. The Liver and Gallbladder meridian pathways traverse the top and sides of the head, the most common sites for migraine headaches.
The Qi of liver flourishes in the spring when plants are sprouting new growth. That's why Spring is the best time to treat the health conditions caused by liver Qi imbalanced.

Acupressure for Liver Health

Deep press the acupressure point  “Taichong” (Liver 3) which stimulates a key point on the Liver channel. It may be sore, but this means you’re hitting all the right spots! You are unblocking your Liver Qi.Rub this area every day. It’s located on top of your foot where the big toe bone meets the second toe bone (about an inch back from the skin between these toes). Using your thumb, press and massage this spot on both feet (the meridians are on both sides of your body). It will calm you down especially when you get anger.

Infertility? Acupuncture is a great option along with IVF or IUI

Acupuncture has been used successfully for infertility treatment for thousands of years, which offers an effective, time-tested approach to enhancing fertility and treating infertility.

Acupuncture can be used in combination with conventional reproductive medical care or as a primary treatment approach, for women who taking fertility drugs or reproductive technology techniques (such as IVF or IUI). Celine Dion's pregnancy with twins was the result of her sixth In-Vitro Fertilization attempt and she turned to acupuncture therapy to improve her chances of getting pregnant.

Acupuncture can also be effective as a stand-alone approach to treat infertility for those not undergoing conventional medical treatment. Acupuncture helps to regulate hormonal activity, thus regulating menstruation, ovulation, and pregnancy.
A recent study from the British Medical Journal found that among women who received acupuncture and IVF, the pregnancy rates were 65% higher and the rates of live births were nearly twice as high than among women who received IVF with sham acupuncture or no acupuncture.

Acupuncture helps to reduce stress and decrease the hyper sympathetic nervous system response. Studies have shown that high stress levels decrease the likelihood of conceiving. Acupuncture has been shown to stimulate chemical changes within the uterine lining, thickening the endometrium, and preparing the uterus for implantation.

For men, acupuncture can improve sperm motility, volume and concentration as well as increase libido. From the perspective of Chinese medicine, optimum fertility enhancement would involve a course of treatments with the aim of nourishing the Kidney Essence and regulating the menstrual cycle as well as clearing any pathogens that may be interfering with the natural process of conception.

How Acupuncture Works

The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy, called Qi, present in all things ranging from infinitely tiny molecules to living breathing human beings.

This Qi is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways or meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the homeostatic system is disrupted resulting in pain or illness.

Visualize if you will, rivers that flood and cause disasters or an electrical grid short-circuiting that causes blackouts etc. This is what happens to our somatic and spiritual landscapes when our Qi is not flowing harmoniously. The insertion of needles into specific points on these “channels” allows for the manipulation and harmonization of ones Qi, which results in improved health, and thus, increased fertility.
Acupuncture a Brief History

Acupuncture and moxibustion have been used in the Far East to restore, promote, and maintain good health for over 5000 years. The first acupuncture needles were made from stone, and then later from bronze, gold and silver. The first known medical account of acupuncture was The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine (Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen), which dates from around 300 BC.

Acupuncture is rooted in the Daoist philosophy of change, growth, balance, and harmony. The Yellow Emperor’s Classic outlines the principles of natural law and the phases of life – yin and yang, the five elements, the organ system and the meridian network along which the vital acupuncture points are located. These records also contain details of pathology and physiology, which some 2,000 years later provide the theoretical foundation for acupuncture today.
Although acupuncture is used far more extensively in China than in the West, the last few decades have seen huge growth in people seeking the benefits of this safe and highly effective treatment.

TCM Acupuncture moxibustion cupping for TOUGH PAIN, HOW IT WORKS!

In this cold winter, many people complain that the cold weather has made their arthritis pain , joint pain, frozen shoulder pain etc. getting worse .These pain can occur anytime throughout the year, but in the cold and wet months of the winter you may find it getting worse.
The Medical Classic of the Yellow Emperor or HUANGDI NEIJING: The bible of Chinese Medicine, which has been treated as the fundamental doctrinal source for Chinese medicine for more than two thousand years, the yellow emperor has told us thousand years ago that when the wind, cold and dampness these three evil attack our body , it will cause the pain which is called "Bi" syndrome in TCM. For example, frozen shoulder is caused by cold and high humidity. One of the headaches which is called "wind-cold" headache in TCM is  also caused by wind and cold. Arthritis is also caused by wind-cold-wetness attack.
wind-cold-dampness syndrome or "Bi" syndrome
So in TCM theory, origin of the disease and pathogenesis of wind-cold-wetness type of arthralgia is the attack of wind-cold-wetness evil due to our body "qi deficiency" and the liver, or spleen, or kidney failing to transport, and becoming protracted stasis in the meridian.

And TCM Acupuncture ,cupping , chinese massage(Tuina), moxibustion or herbal therapies are all for balancing our body's "Qi" ,improve liver, spleen or kidney etc. organs' function, and clear the stasis or blockage in the meridian.
So Healing from the root beyond treating the syndromes. If this is what you looking for, please feel confident to book an appointment online, or call us at 416-800-3978

【Case Report】Jarry's another successful case acupuncture for Depression Insomnia

A  46 year-old Phillipino lady with Insomnia and depression for about half year, her friend found us online and took her to our clinic for reflexology therapy for her Insomnia. After the inquiry and inspection diagnosis (The four TCM diagnostic methods refer to inspection , auscultation and olfaction , inquiry and palpation). I suggested her to take Jarry's acupuncture treatments. She was sort of afraid of the needle and didn't think acupuncture will help her Insomnia condition, she didn't want to try acupuncture at all. But her friend who's a very nice gentlemen trying to help her as much as he could, he finally convinced her to see Jarry for the acupuncture treatment. So every week both of them came to see Jarry twice for the acupuncture treatments, after 3 weeks(6 sessions) her sleeping improved a lot, and after 4 weeks total 8 sessions(45minutes/session), her friend told us that she is completely different from the person we saw at the first time.

Depression Insomnia seem very complicated condition and so many people suffer from it. How the Traditional Chinese Medication like acupuncture or herbs can offer tremendously helpful support in healing the root causes of this epidemic? New anti-asthma drugs based on the principle of acupuncture treatment for Asthma

Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine found the underlying principle of "acupuncture treatment of asthma", is expected to make new anti-asthma drugs that could lead to more effective targeted therapy for millions of individuals with asthma...

Acupuncture has been used as an effective alternative treatment of asthma for long time. What's the mechanism behind at the molecular level of this traditional classic acupuncture treatment formular?

Published Wednesday(Feb. 8th,2017) in the journal Science Translational Medicine, Professor Yang Yongqing from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine led a research team about 10 years after, significant progress has been made in basic research on anti-asthma targeted drugs and acupuncture-effect substances.

In a study, published Wednesday in the journal Science Translational Medicine, Luis Ulloa, a lead author and immunologist at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and his collaborator from China's Shanghai University examined more than 6,000 compounds and identified a drug called TSG12 that relaxes the muscles and opens the airways in asthma.
This drug treatment, which is not toxic in human cells, can prevent pulmonary resistance in egg-and dust mite-induced asthma.
Researchers found that a protein called MT-2 in asthmatic lung tissue relaxes airway smooth muscle cells and opens the airways but MT-2 was over 50 percent lower in asthmatic lung tissue.
Ulloa and his collaborators transmitted short electrical pulses into mice through electro-acupuncture needles.
It enabled them to identify the specific drug TSG12 that provides better therapeutic treatments for asthma and other respiratory disorders.
The TSG12 treatment was more effective than current treatments, including bronchodilator inhalers used by almost all people with asthma, Ulloa said...

The Regimen of the king of Traditional Chinese Medicine who lived upto 140

"Whenever eminent physicians treat an illness, they must quiet the spirit and settle the will, they must be free of wants and desires, and they must first develop a heart full of great compassion and empathy. They must pledge to devote themselves completely to relieving the suffering of all sentient beings.(凡大醫治病,必當安神定志,無欲無求,先發大慈惻隱之心。 ----- By Sun Simiao (The king of Chinese Medicine)

Born in 541;died in 682) was a famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor of the Sui and Tang dynasty. He was titled as China's King of Medicine (药王, Yaowang) for his significant contributions to Chinese medicine and tremendous care to his patients.

He lived up to 140 years old, back at that time, the average life expectancy of people was only 40 - 50 years old. The "three little" regimen that he proposed in his health care, that is, having "less in the mind, less food in the belly, less sleep in nature", is well worth our study and practice。

The first is "less in the mind." This is the top of the "three little". The premise of peace of mind is that there are few things in mind. There is little or no trouble with the matter of right and wrong, that is, heart and mind can calm down. Therefore, peacetime must be philosophical, indifferent to fame and fortune, be generous with others, reduce the stimulation of bad emotions...

The second is "less food in the belly." The ancients said: "If you want to be healthy, having ave a clear stomach and clear intestine is the key" To achieve this "double-clear," we must always eat less food. In particular, “Sweetness” and “Fatness” must be “remembered with mercy” and “eat only half full,” so that the stomach can be easily digested, and if you drink more tea, you will naturally have a clear stomach and intestine and disease-free.

The third is "less natural sleep". Sleep is a natural supplement. For the seniors, with the change of the physiological function, relative reduction in sleep is a normal law, and there is no need to bother. However, Sun Simiao said that "less nature sleep" is the ultimate realm of sleep, that is, in the process of natural sleep reduction, to ensure the quality of sleep is the key. It is a blessing for each of us if we can “naturally fall asleep and naturally wake up”.
