This is the continue report of last【Case Report 】Hemiplegia after Neurosurgery for Brain Tumor removal.
Oct. 18, Sunday afternoon, my husband took me to the Toronto Grace Hospital Rehab Centre to see  Tommy, today is his 37 years old birthday. He found us from internet, so we have never seen  each other until yesterday. All I know about him is from his email and from our acupuncturist Jarry. As they told me that he was deaf and mute, and right side was 100% paralysis, but yesterday what amazed me is that he called my name clearly and he moved his right arm strongly. After last treatment course (7 times treatment section) he could only move his right hand thumb as Jarry told me, which was a significant improvement already for his condition. But during his treatment break period, just as Jarry said more improvements will appear during the break period. And it did happen, I was so impressed by that. Even Jarry was very surprised by Tommy's significant improvements. He did respond very well from the acupuncture treatment. We are all so happy for him. Acupuncture for Depression (Natural Therapy for chronic anxiety)

Approximately 4 million Canadians suffer with chronic anxiety or depression. One out of eight adults are currently taking antidepressant medications. They tend to eat refined carbohydrates and/or drink coffee to start the day, only to experience the typical 'crash' around 2-4pm. To keep the blood sugar stable, begin the day with a high protein breakfast such as eggs, turkey bacon, whole oats, or smoothies with whey or goat protein in them. Eat a low glycemic snack every 2-3 hours. Avoid coffee and other forms of caffeine. It can also be revealing to avoid allergenic foods such as wheat, gluten, pasteurized dairy, and refined sugar for one month to see if the depression significantly improves. Here is a brief list of nutritional supplements that can be very helpful in treating depression:

  • Fish oil 
  • B vitamin complex
Meditation and Yoga 

Many people find meditation and yoga to be their most powerful allies in healing depression. On a deeper level, they can help us forge a spiritual connection with our lives that instills an unshakable sense of trust and safety in the workings of the universe.

曲折痛苦的生活经历

公元215年,皇甫谧出生于安定朝那(今甘肃灵台)一个贫苦的农舍中。初取名静,后改谧,字土安。生后即被过继给他叔父为子,并随叔父迁居新安(今安徽歙县地区)。将近20岁时,他还没上学念书,终日东游西逛,无所事是。但他对叔父母倒很孝顺。一日邻家给了他一些时令瓜果,他舍不得吃,拿回家给叔母任氏享用。任氏赞美他的孝心,流着眼泪对他说,"你已经是20岁的人了,至今目不识丁,《孝经》上说,即使每天用三牲(指用于祭祀的牛、羊、猪)来奉养父母,但如果不懂治国治家的道理,不修身养性,仍然是一个不孝的人。真不明白是我没有选择有学问的好邻居,还是没有教你信守做人的道理,以至至今还是如此?学习是为你自己学得本领,我又能得到什么呢?"一席话使皇甫褴深自愧疚,激发了他立志好好学习、把失去的时间追回来的决心。次日,他就拜乡里著名的学者席坦为师,开始了他的学习生涯。老师授课时,他如饥似渴,勤读勤问;下田劳动时,带书而去,利用休息时间阅读不止。从此他不再与人嬉闹,变得沉默寡言、"唯书是务",成了一个与以前性格完全不同的人。数年以后,他已成为一个远近闻名的学者。他认为,不求名利才会无损于生命;不追求富贵,才能获得深厚的道行。因此,尽管郡守曾请他出仕,举荐他为孝廉,相国也征召他去做官,他都拒绝了。他甘心一生玩味经典册籍,为将知识传播他人而著书立说,为后世立言,著《黄帝部针灸甲乙经》。40岁时,他不幸得了风症(中风),半身麻木,右腿肌肉萎缩服寒食散又药物中毒,身发热,寒冬时尚须袒露身体服食冰雪,夏天则更烦闷不堪,并伴有咳嗽、喘、浮肿和四肢酸疼,时刻处于病危之中。疾病的折磨考验了他的意志,求生的欲望又促使他研读医学典籍,而针灸治疗风症的效果使他更对针灸学感兴趣,于是他广泛研读针灸文献,终于成了一位针灸大家。
当时医学经典著作颇多,但经络胞穴不统一。他把当时风行的《黄帝针经》、《素问》及《明堂孔穴针灸治要》三部书进行了比较研究"使事类相从,删其浮词,除其重,论其精要",著成《黄帝部针灸甲乙经》10卷。又称《针灸甲乙经》,简称《甲乙经》,约完成于公元259年。南北朝时改为12卷本。原书主论医学理论和针灸之法,故以《针灸甲乙经》命名。《针灸甲乙经》是现存最早而较完整的针灸学著作。前部分阐明脏腑、经络、脑穴、诊法病;后部分论述各病症及针灸法。它是我国晋代以前针灸学成就的总结性文献。

  抑郁症的具体表现
  常表现为情绪低落,对前途悲观失望,不愿主动与人交往,意志消沉,精神委靡不振,怯懦沮丧,头昏脑沉,严重失眠耳鸣耳聋,两眼呆滞,怔忡心悸,惊恐易哭,压抑苦恼,记忆力减退,反应迟钝,大便秘结,以及其他一些身心严重不适和自主神经功能失调的表现。抑郁症好发于多愁善感,性格孤僻,心胸狭窄,情绪冷漠,缺乏关爱,疏于交往的人群。过分地害怕担心就容易引发焦虑症,严重起来就会导致到抑郁症,

抑郁症的症状可归结为四没有:


  第一是没有乐趣。对任何事情都没有兴趣,对亲人也没有感情。
  第二是没有能力。无论是工作还是学习都难以专注,缺乏能力。
  第三就是没有希望,对一切都感到灰心。
  第四就是没有意义。看任何事情都觉得没意义、没价值。
  抑郁症是一个现代的词汇,在我们传统的中医学中是没有这个词的,但是根据抑郁症的表现症状来看,和中医学上郁证、虚劳、脏躁、百合病、心悸、不寐等病证是非常相似的。



中医认为抑郁症之发生与七情内伤、劳逸失调、病后失养、所志不遂、气郁化火等因素密切相关。这些致病因素造成了机体内的脏腑功能失和,使正常的气血升降功能发生阻滞,最终导致了人体的阴阳失衡、气机逆乱而发生本病。清朝医家李用粹在《证治汇补•郁证》中说:“郁病虽多,皆因气不调,法当顺气为先。”
  这一治疗原则既是抑郁症初发的治疗原则,也是治疗抑郁症最基本最重要的法则。本病初发病位尚浅,气血尚调和,脏腑功能失衡不严重,治疗效果较好。明朝大医学家赵献可在其医著《医贯•郁病论》中认为郁症以木郁即肝郁为先导,提出“以一法代五法,神而明之,屡获奇效”。一法即“木郁达之”,抑郁症初发,肝气郁结,枢机不利即见郁证发生,治疗原则首以疏肝解郁为主兼调他脏,则病可速效。所以,基于这一治疗原则的基础上,针灸就是以打通气结为主,对治疗抑郁症是有独到的疗效的。趁病还轻还早的时候及时治疗才是上策。

“总结我看病的经验,我想真心的给正在治疗的网友一些建议:
  1、如果你不想一辈子服用西药,你可以考虑中药、针灸之类的传统中医疗法,无论针炙还是汤药,其实任何一种中医疗法都可以治好你的病的,关键看你是否可以找到一个好的中医医生。找到一个好医生才是治好病的关键所在。
  2、要善于仔细分析医生的水平,不要在庸医治疗上耽误太多的时间和金钱,无论针炙医生还是开方医生,如果一个中医给你治疗一个疗程无任何效果,要果断换医生,好的中医见效应该是很快的。

Acupuncture and Natural Therapies for Sciatica

Acupuncture have proven to be effective for many people who suffer from sciatica. 

This condition, which is characterized by nervy and gnawing pain that radiates from the low back down one or both legs, can be debilitating and frustrating. Many patients have tried conventional therapies such as pain medications, physical therapy, and chiropractic but still struggle with the condition.


In acupuncture theory, pain is believed to be due to stuck energy and blood in the body. It is always a result of impeded circulation, which can lead to inflammation or degeneration. In the case of sciatica, the gall bladder meridian is typically in need of energetic balancing. This meridian runs from the piriformus muscle in the buttocks down the lateral side of the legs, which is the pathway of the sciatic nerve. Qi stagnation (stuck energy) occurs in this meridian due to suppressed anger and stress. Because of this, a common dynamic amongst sciatica patients is that they tend to hold onto anger or express it inappropriately.
Acupuncture is a gentle treatment that is intended to be very relaxing, restorative and balancing. As the primary goal is to regulate the flow of Qi in the gall bladder meridian, one often notices that their entire sense of health is boosted from the treatment: physically, emotionally, and mentally. Most of the sciatic patients come for treatment 1-2 times per week for 4 weeks, at which time we assess for progress. The treatment plan depends upon the severity of the pain and how long it has been there.


Lots of people also have found the following supplements to be helpful for sciatica:
  • Bromelain: anti-inflammatory enzyme
  • Fish oil: (3,000 mg daily)
  • 5 HTP: (a natural precursor to serotonin; many people with chronic pain are serotonin deficient)
There are also specific yoga posture that are helpful for both prevention and for active flare ups. These poses are best learned from a yoga instructor, as it is fairly easy to exacerbate this condition with stretching.

With the right combination of therapies, sciatica typically responds very well to treatment. Combining acupuncture for a few weeks and adding some targeted stretches. This should go a long way in your recovery from this painful condition.

【Case Report】Eczema Be Cured by 3-time Acupuncture Treatments

A regular patient of our clinic, 45 year-old Chinese lady Jing, got Eczema on her body and arms, itchy and dry skin, after  2 times acupuncture treatments by Jarry,  The itch was gone, last Thursday she came in to get another treatment, after that the Eczema on her body and arms totally gone. 【Case Report】Hemiplegia after Neurosurgery for Brain Tumor removal

30 year-old Vietnese young man Tommy got Hemiplegia on right side, speaking loss, hearing loss,right side vision loss in 2014 Summer after his third time Neurosurgery for Brain Tumor removal. Our acupuncturist Jarry started to give him acupuncture treatment on Sep 17th after he got approved to be Tommy's ECP(External Care Provider)  by Toronto Grace Hospital.  so Tommy got 2 times treatments a week  and when he got the fifth acupuncture treatment on Sep 27,2015 and he told Jarry that his right hand has warm sensation and he showed him that his right hand fingers can gently move a bit. Usually he used his left hand 5 fingers to show Jarry how much pain he feel when the needle inside his body,with 1 finger shows less pain to 5 fingers lots of pain. Yesterday Oct.1st, Jarry gave him the sixth treatment and he showed Jarry by his right hand fingers. Jarry has been surprised by his significant improvement. From Jarry's 26 years experience, usually it will take at lease 3 courses(21 sessions) treatments  for a hemiplegia patient to  start moving a bit. Tommy was very excited by his improvement and asked Jarry if he can give him the treatment everyday so he can recover from Hemiplegia sooner. Jarry told him that it is not good for him to get the  acupuncture treatment everyday. 2 to 3 times a week is best for his health condition. After one course treatment, Tommy also need at lease one week rest before he start to receive the second course treatments.


九月十号,诊所接了一个新病人,30岁的越南华人Tommy,去年夏天因第三次做脑瘤手术,引起中分右侧半身不随,同时引起聋哑及右眼失去视力,刘医师13号开始上门出诊,到其所住医院准备给他做针灸治疗,17号第二次出诊,不料院方值班医师不让做,说要经过医院管理部门批准后才行,所以推到20号,刘医师才开始给他第二次的针灸治疗,27号是他的第五次治疗,Tommy告诉刘医师他的右手开始感觉到暖和了,而且还可以轻微的动了。因为他是聋哑,所以通常他是通过左手手指的比划来向刘医师示意这针进到他体内后的疼痛程度,一个手指是代表轻微的疼痛感觉,两个手指是代表稍微强的疼痛,依次类推...到了昨天也就是十月一号,当刘医师给他做完第六次治疗后,他轻轻拉过刘医师,比划着他右手的大拇指,告诉刘医师他可以移动他的右手的大拇指了。刘医师也是感到非常的惊喜,因为根据他二十多年针灸临床经验,像Tommy这样的瘫痪患者至少要经过三到四个疗程(也就是至少二十多次的针灸治疗)才能达到这个效果,但是Tommy在一个疗程还没结束时瘫痪的那半边就已经开始有温度并可以轻微移动了。这个结果真是非常鼓舞人心,Tommy还试探刘医师,既然那么见效,能否每天给他做治疗,这样他可以好得快些,刘医师告诉他,针灸治疗不能每天做,并不是天天做效果就更好,一周两次对他这种身体状况是最合适的了。

阳光是一味药 : 增强免疫力 - 学会晒太阳,胜过吃补药

现代快节奏生活让人们与阳光共处的时间少了,朝九晚五,披星戴月,似乎与阳光隔离了,不仅会精神忧郁,还会层出不穷各种病状。阳光是最好的维生素D活化剂,常晒太阳能够增强人的免疫功能,可以减少许多疾病发生。生活中处处有阳光,为什么没有人感觉到阳光的珍贵呢?

  中医认为,晒太阳可以增加体内的阳气,是养生所必须的。“头为诸阳之首”,是所有阳气汇聚的地方,凡五脏精华之血、六腑清阳之气,皆汇于头部。晒头顶正中的百会穴,可通畅百脉、调补阳气。天气好时,走出室外,充分享受阳光的沐浴,多晒晒腰背部,还可以补充阳气。
晒太阳,不仅给人以好心情,还有很好的养生保健作用。如在阳光下摊开双手朝向阳光,可舒缓疲劳,促进睡眠。当然晒太阳,一定要避开紫外线强的时候。
  《内经》中说:“故阳气者,一日而主外,平旦人气生,日中而阳气隆,日西而阳气已虚,气门乃闭。是故暮而收拒,无扰筋骨,无见雾露,反此三时,形乃困薄。”二战期间,德国的U型潜水艇在大西洋上攻击了无数盟军的商船和护航队,而盟军一直蒙在鼓里。直到后来,德军水兵由于长期潜航,不见太阳,面色苍白,身心疲惫,精神几近崩溃,强烈要求登岛晒太阳,才被盟军飞机侦察到行踪。
  挪威是阳光稀缺的国家,每年春天,挪威人全家老幼皆出去郊游。找一块向阳的地方,全家人躺下来,闭上眼睛舒舒服服晒太阳。夏季挪威阳光最充足,很多城市是“人去城空”。人们都去享受阳光的抚慰,大海边、公园里,甚至街边的长椅上,会看到很多老年人怡然自得的晒太阳。阳光是挪威人的第二生命。

晒太阳的好处:
晒太阳可以延缓衰老,其中起作用的是维生素D。研究显示,体内维生素D水平较高者比维生素D较低者的机体平均年轻5岁左右。人体所需的维生素D,其中有90%都需要依靠晒太阳而获得。肌肤通过获取阳光中的紫外线来制造维生素D3,身体再把维生素D3转化为活性维生素D,这种类型的维生素有助于倡导对钙、磷的吸收,促进骨骼的形成,而维生素D也因此被称为“阳光维生素”。
据研究每平方厘米皮肤暴露在阳光下3小时,可产生约20国际单位的维生素D。即使将婴儿全身紧裹衣服,只要暴露面部,每天晒太阳1小时,也可产生400国际单位维生素D。接近婴儿每天维生素D全部需要。
晒太阳能够预防皮肤病。皮肤适当的接受紫外线的照射,可以有效杀除皮肤上的细菌,增加皮肤的抵抗力。
晒太阳还能够增强人体的免疫功能、增加吞噬细胞活力。阳光中的紫外线有很强的杀菌能力,一般细菌和某些病毒在阳光下晒半小时或数小时,就会被杀死。日光在调解人体生命节律以及心理方面也有一定的作用。晒太阳能够促进人体的血液循环、增强人体新陈代谢的能力、调节中枢神经,从而使人体感到舒展而舒适。
晒太阳能够提高男性雄性激素水平,增强性欲,提高精子质量。因为人体血液内睾丸激素的水平,会随着体内维生素D含量的增加而上升。研究还再次证实,每天晒太阳1小时,人体内睾丸激素便可增加69%。
阳光中的紫外线还可以刺激骨髓制造红血球,提高造血功能,从而防止贫血。
